General Product Safety Regulation to come into force soon
On 13 December 2024, the Regulation on General Product Safety (RSGP - Regulation (EU) 2023/988) will come into force.
This Regulation will replace the law of 31 July 2006 on general product safety (Directive 2001/95/EC) and the Grand Ducal regulation of 8 April 1991 on products having the appearance of foodstuffs (Directive 87/357/EEC).
The regulation applies to non-food products, whether sold offline or online. It is therefore a tool to protect consumers from products or risks not regulated by other EU legislation.
As a regulation, it will be directly applicable in all EU countries and will not need to be transposed into national legislation.
In addition, at the end of November, an implementing regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/2958) determining the relevant performance indicators for the RSGP was published in the Official Journal.
